Year Round School

I'm so sick of school, and I'm not even the one that goes to school. It is June, school should be out, Reece should wake up and be playing all day long. We should be able to take trips to the park together, go to the pool, go up in the mountains. BUT NO. Reece has school until July 1st. I'm so done with homework, and spelling words, and vocab words. I'm done with strict bed times so that he can be ready for school the next day. It is light outside until like 9pm, when I put them in bed at 7:30, it is as bright as mid-day. I have the best memories of playing outside at twighlight, running around, riding bikes in the cooler weather of a summer night. AGHHHHHH, year round school stinks!

thanks, I feel better.

Reece goes to bed at 7:30?? Wow. I used to be so good about bedtime for Noah, but it's been horrible lately with it being light so late. Poor Reece! And poor mom.

7:30? wow how do you pull that off? I agree - year round school would blow. I am grateful they don't do that out here in the sticks.

OK, I guess I should clarify, I don't actually have them in bed by 7:30, maybe in the winter, but not in the summer. We do come in the house by 7:30 for baths, prayers, scriptures, story etc. Normally they are in bed by 8 and Reece is allowed to read until 8:30.

my kids are in bed early too. i love it :) but in the summer months, you are right - they need to be able to be out enjoying the beautiful evenings!

I can see how year round school can be frustrating as a parent, but as a kid, I LOVED IT. I loved having breaks in the middle of school and being able to go on vacations throughout the year, etc. I don't know what I would think though if I had kids going to year round school. Good luck!

I actually really miss year-round school for my children (and I was a dyed in the wool traditionalist before then!). I loved the three-week breaks all throughout the year, being able to have the laidback lifestyle associated with summer in a piece of all the seasons. We're in the summer honeymoon right now (the first week out of school) and I'm girding up for when even summer becomes boring to my kids. Because face it -- all moms know that happens!

Maybe the hardest part of year-round this time of year is inevitably some of your friend and neighbors ARE out for the summer already. It's one thing to go to bed with the sunshine, quite another to go to bed to the sounds of other kids playing late!

I do agree, the breaks throughout the year are really nice. Reece always has a hard time going back on track though. We have a major melt down after each break.
