20 Weeks-Halfway done!

The kids are showing off their cute little bellies.
Mason really believes that he has a baby in his tummy as well.

I had my ultrasound last week and really didn't want to talk about it until I found out the results. The ultrasound tech was TERRIBLE and said a lot of things and didn't say a lot of things that made me very concerned. My midwife finally got the results back from the hospital, and everything looks good. So, now I can talk about it.

Now, if there are any ultrasound techs out there, let me tell you a few things when you are dealing with pregnant women:

Do: Pretend to be excited for the mother and father, even though this is my 4th child, it is still a wonderful and exciting experience for us, don't ruin it!
Don't: Let your annoyance shine through when the baby won't cooperate and get in the correct position for you.

Do: Answer the parents questions when they ask you what anatomy you are looking at
Don't: Stay silent throughout the ultrasound unless the parents ask you to

Do: Ask any needed questions before the ultra sound starts
Don't: Ask the mother if she is in for an ultrasound because of problems minutes AFTER you have started the ultrasound, then tell the mother that you can not answer any diagnostic questions when she is freaking out that something is wrong with her baby.

Again: Do ask any needed questions before the ultra sound starts
Don't: Ask the mother if she is measuring normal at her Dr. visits after you have just measured the baby and then tell the mother AGAIN that you can not answer any diagnostic questions.

Do: print off lots of pictures of baby, hands, feet, profile, face, bum showing gender, etc.
Don't: Print off 2 measly pictures, one that even a Dr. couldn't recognize.

Example of a good Picture:

Example of a bad picture. I wouldn't mind if I got this picture if it was one of many, but it was one of TWO pictures. This is supposed to be the front of her face, you know the ones that look kind of alien like.
Do: Tell the parents congratulations as they leave the office
Don't: Send the parents off by telling them that their midwife will let them know the test results on Monday, making the mother think there was a problem and she needed to know the test results.

Just a few tips for those of you that are already ultrasound techs or thinking about becoming one!

I am so glad that everything is okay. I had a tech with Kimmie that was the same way. I am so sorry. I loved your advice for them though! Sometimes they just need a little reminder.

We wanted to be surprised (gender-wise) during my fourth pregnancy and told the tech so. He snickered the whole time "I know what it is!" This totally ruined it for me because I knew there was only one way someone could have made such a quick conclusion after a microsecond peek. Yep, a boy.

So this shot's at 20 weeks, are you kidding me? You look more like a 20-year-old who's never been pregnant!

The picture was taken today, and I'm not technically 20 weeks until tomorrow. So, I should have put 19 weeks 6 days as the title.

Wow I think we had the same ultrasound tech. Was he a short balding guy you'd expect to see behind the counter at the DMV?

Meghan, there is no cuter pregnant lady than you!

Leighanne, I have seen Juno, love that movie! We can't wait to see you guys too.

Holly, my tech was an older woman that you may see at the DMV, maybe they are married. You would think that it being a woman, maybe she had kids of her own, she should know better.

It must be something they train them to do in school--the not talking through the whole ultrasound thing. I think only one of my ultrasound techs was good at keeping me informed of what was going on. She was also the one who printed the most pictures too.

Oh well, maybe you'll have to get another done, and get a better tech next time!

First off, I hate you. Secondly, that picture is the worst one I have ever seen - it doesn't even look like there is a life form in there! I totally see why you were freaked out. But once again, I hate you.

You know how mailmen have to pass like a super-intensive personality profile in order to deliver mail? How come we can't get the same screening for people who have a substantially more intimate interaction w/ those they work with...?? Crazy...

Glad you survived the ordeal and that everything is ok. It's nice to see that I'm not the only person who barely shows at the halfway point. I felt kind of jipped by that whole experience - but what do you do, right?

you don't even look like you are pregnant!
That ultrasound experience was the worst I have ever heard about. Hopefully the tech was just having an off day, I hope she isn't like that all the time. Glad all is well!

That is such a bummer about the tech. You look great- I bet from the front you can't even tell you are pregnant.

You look at least..........2 weeks pregnant! The place at the mall that does the 3D and 4D ultrasounds is great and they give you a ton of cute pictures. Give me a call when you can, I need to schedule Lexi's pictures:)
