So why doesn't Obama salute the flag? I don't get it. Oh well. Nice picture anyway.

This picture made me CRAZY!!!!!
I saw it b/f election day and it made me wonder WHY WHY WHY???

I guess "we" (as Americans) get what we deserve if that's what the majority wanted! Glad I live in Russia!!!

Umm...I don't know what his reasoning is. I know he also doesn't wear flag pins or flag insignia on his person. It may be a religious thing though. My only experience with this is that I was raised in a (Christian) religion that also didn't believe in saluting, the pledge of allegiance or wearing/owning flag insignia. Of course this same religion also prevented members from running for office or even voting... so I doubt that is his reason...but I'm just guessing it has something do with the "God before country" mentality.

Ok the more I thought about this the more I wanted to dig. I did some research and apparently this is a one-time thing. It's not his policy to not salute. He apparently used to have a section on his website addressing this but now that the election is over much of the website has been removed and replaced with new content. Hmm... maybe that can be a home school project for the kids...write to the president and ask!

I don't really see what lapel pins and putting your hand on your heart have to do with patriotism. Isn't that a sort of superficial factor? Isn't running for President and being a community organizer and civil servent your entire adult life kind of patriotic in and of itself?

I mean no disrespect, I just think little things like this get blown out of proportion.

I'd like to know the context of this picture. Technically, from what we can see, NO ONE in the photograph is saluting the flag -- it's behind them! So what are the others saluting?

I like your thinking, Julie. Two good men, who both love their country, our country, put patriotism into action, culminating in wanting to lead it. Only one could be elected. If McCain could be gracious and pledge his support to help Obama for our country's sake, I think we should all be so respectful.

You are right Jennifer, we should all stand behind our President Elect, and I sure hope he can turn this country around like he promised. I guess I'm just sick of the media and everyone acting as if his being elected was the Second Coming and that he will be able to preform miracles. He isn't perfect and there are some things about him that really really scare me. Not only covering his heart or refusing to wear a pin, but associating with known terrorists and racist religious leaders, his socialistic ideals, and views on abortion.

Like I said, I really hope that he can make changes for the better. He was elected by our country and I will pray for him.

Sorry, if Kindergarteners are taught to do it, our President Elect can do it too.
