Take a Hike Ike!

Well, I had the worst time sleeping last night, worried about friends and family out in Houston. My parents were on a trip to Canada, and decided to extend their stay until things blow over. My sister Linsey lives with my parents, and she went to stay with my brother and sister-in-law Adrian and Julianna who live at the front of Kingwood. They are in a newer area with fewer large trees and they thought it would be safer to stay there. They brought everything from my parents backyard into the house for my parents. They have about a weeks worth of food and water stocked up and spent the night in Adrian and Julianna's walk in closet that is connected to bathroom. They texted me last night at about 3:30 am and they were fine, but the winds were pretty strong (Ike hit land around 3am and Kingwood is about an hour and half drive inland). I tried texting them this morning but haven't heard back from them.

The news reports were so terrifying, last I heard was if you didn't evacuate Galveston, it was certain death. Then I heard they were telling anyone that stayed in Galveston to write their social security numbers on their arms for easy death identification. I tossed and turned last night dreaming of tornadoes. I couldn't get my kids in the house and a huge tornado was coming. Kingwood is supposed to be on the dirty side of the storm so they might end up with some tornadoes. According to the news, 3 million are out of power right now. If anyone can get ahold of their family out there in Kingwood, let me know!

Hey! I hope your family is okay! If they wind up being without power or something for a long time, they are welcome here! Let us know when you get in touch with them!

My sister is in Crosby - and I haven't reached her yet today either. I think that area (Kingwood included) is going to be fine though - they're far enough away from the storm surge and the strongest band of the storm.

I did reach my two brothers that are in Katy today - and they're great. They weren't on the dirty side of the storm though.

I think as long as everyone stays put - they're going to be fine. They are all Texans, you know:)

I posted last night on my blog with the same title. I too have family in Houston- well Bay City. Some were able to evacuate to San Antonio, but we haven't heard from my husband's grandparents. It is a scary thing. I hope your family is ok!

Shannon, we are both so clever! I'm sure it is being used like crazy. I hope everything is well with your family.

i got a hold of my parents this morning on their landline. no power, but they have a corded phone as well. ian and hilary had made it to debby's during the eye of the storm. no major damage- a few fences blown over but nothing to stress about. i did hear that adrian and julianna's neighbor had a tree fall on their car or something...is that true?

I didn't hear that about their car, but it could be true. I talked to Linsey early this morning, I don't think they had been outside yet.

I heard from Randie Krogel and she said that many trees were down but surprisingly enough, not many on homes.
The power is supposed to be out for awhile-ugh. Hopefully the estimate of 2 weeks is just so people won't get cranky if it takes a week!
Good BBQ's will be going on to clear the freezers.
Let me know if you hear anything. Everyone is in our prayers!

So glad your family is alright! I still think of K town as my home even though I haven't lived there in a while. I was heartsick when I saw Galveston on the news. I hope things are on the up and up for your family.

I didn't sleep either and was on the internet and watched CNN constantly. James said that the cell tower is down and he drove out until he got a signal to email me from his blackberry. They are okay just hot without air conditioning! Today he called and left a message that they had packed up and gone to San Antonio for a few days so they can cool off in a hotel and sleep.

I'm so glad to hear everyone is OK! My parents were in Calgary Canada and have a flight booked for today. They aren't sure if they will really be able to get in or not. I think they are crazy for going back home. They won't have any power. Aid, Julianna and my sister are staying at my parents house because they have a generator.

Our thoughts and prayers are with your families. You will have to let us know what kind of damage they sustained. Erik's uncle came here to get away from the storm although that is the only family we have in the area. I am glad to hear that everyone is safe. I hope and pray that they will get to go home soon and things will be okay with their homes.

I am glad to hear you family is ok! I don't have much family in Texas but an uncle in Galveston. He evacuated in the last storm and ran out of gas on the side of the road...and ended up being interviewed on CNN...he always seems to land on his feet!
