Reece's Crystals

We got a great science book at the library recently and have had a lot of fun trying out some of the experiments in it. We made some baking soda crystals last week, the formations on them were spectacular, it was fun to see them grow more and more intricate, until I got sick of it taking up counter space. Then it was time for a picture and dump them in the sink.
Here's how to do it:
Take two mason jars, fill them each with warm water. Stir in baking soda in each jar until it will no longer dissolve. Take a piece of yarn and tie a paper clip to each end. Dip the string in one of the jars to get it completely wet. Place each end of the string in a jar and wait a few days for your crystals to start forming.
We are going to do some research on stalactites and stalagmites to see how they form.

It's Potty Time
I have to say that potty training the third child is not high on my priority list. Can't this kid just figure this stuff out? He has a brother and sister that go in the potty, why can't he?
Well, because of my laziness in the potty training department, I've employed two little helpers, and it has proved to be one of my greatest ideas ever. Reece and Maya get to help Mason go potty, which involve,
1. putting the potty seat on the potty
2. help him get on the potty seat
3. read him a book while he is going potty
4. help him wipe
5. help him get off the potty
6. help him wash his hands
7. help him get his undies and pants back on.
And their reward? One gummy bear for Mason and one gummy bear for the helper. The best part is, who ever has a turn taking Mason potty becomes his little personal cheerleader, "Come on Mason, it is time to sit on the potty, you are such a big boy when you sit on the potty!" All of that, because they want one measly little gummy bear. They must be really hard up for some sugar around here.

Flash Back Friday: Jada
It was about 5 years ago that we got Jada. I have this freakish thing where I have to get an animal every time I'm pregnant. I got a cat named Cooper while pregnant with Reece, Jada while pregnant with Maya, and our cat Charlise for Michael while pregnant with Mason. I don't recommend getting a puppy when pregnant. It was like having 2 newborns and having to potty train one of the newborns, but it was worth it.
Jada has been a great dog for our family. We trained her while she was young to go down the slide, and she will still perform this trick, it gets lots of laughs at the park.
She is so smart, and really good with the kids. They climb all over her, and occasionally she will give out a pathetic yelp to let me know she is sick of it.
She is a great running partner for me, if I get up early and get my running shoes on, her tail starts spinning like a helicopter and I have to let her outside or she will wake everyone up because she is so excited.
