You Know You Are a Bad Neighbor When....

When you are the only one outside NOT vacuuming your driveway. Today was a beautiful day, it was sunny and warm and it made everyone crawl out of their homes to enjoy the spring-like weather. I got a little ambition and decided to clean out the garage. Well, to my surprise when I looked up the street I saw this...
And then I saw this....
See the base of the vacuum there? It is full of debris that he vacuumed up. He wouldn't continue vacuuming for the picture, as to not appear too feminine, but don't let him fool you.

I found a picture online that has a striking resemblance to him, and the sign he is holding says he is in touch with his feminine side. Things that make you go hmmmm....

The only Valentine I need

All this talk about Apolo and Sawyer might give you guys the wrong idea. There is one and only man for me, and the Valentine card he made for me just confirmed what I already knew. A few of our friends have been OBSESSED with the show Lost, I would mock and make fun of them (sorry Julie, you took the brunt of the mocking) for being so involved and completely addicted to the show. Well, after 3 years, Michael and I were feeling out of the loop and decided we would find out what all the hype was about. We watched the pilot and we were hooked. We watched the complete first season in a little over a week, I beg him every night just to watch one more episode with me, we usually watch 2 episodes. Well, just look at the AMAZING card I found on the kitchen counter when I woke up Valentines morning. After I saw this card, I couldn't care less about anything else we had planned that day, the card was all I needed.

The card got a little wet and smeared the washable marker, it says "I would love to get Lost with you anytime"You might not be able to tell, but the inside of the card is a pop-up featuring us stranded on an island, wreckage, and a pop-up tree. Notice my hot body and Michael's six pack.

And what would Valentines be without a heart-shaped box full of chocolates?

Now, here is the crazy part.

Not only did Michael make the most amazing pop-up Valentine card, but I made him a pop-up card too. See what I'm saying, we were made for each other.

Michael got off work early so we could go and get a couples massage. It was 70 mins. of pure heaven, unfortunately it was not overlooking the ocean like the image below, but I had my eyes closed anyways.

Then off to Cafe Rio for a Pork Barbacoa Salad. Mmmmm....I'm salivating just thinking about it.
Since we were right next door, we just popped into Leatherby's to grab the most scrumptious caramel and a quart of ice cream.

We hurried home, got the kids in bed and watched a couple of episodes of Lost, (we are currently in Season 2) It couldn't have been a more perfect Valentines Day!

Hey all you Sawyer Fans

Sawyer just gave me my nickname, Freebird.

What is yours?
Find out here.

Got Apolo?

Apparently I was unaware at how popular Apolo Ohno actually is. I noticed that my readership went up by 200% the day I posted my last article, there is a website dedicated to Apolo sightings, who'd a thought? Someone put the a link to my blog on that website saying that I had a "great little story" about running with him that "suggests it was recently".

Saturday workouts with Apolo

I live pretty close to the Olympic Oval, fastest ice on earth, it was the home of the speed skating for the 2002 Winter Olympics.
Since Utah is a winter wonderland right now, a few of my girl friends and I have been running on the track inside the Olympic oval. It is larger than a regular track because it surrounds the ice rink. As we were running, Maribelle claimed she saw Apolo Ohno, 2 time gold medalist for the winter Olympics, and winner of Dancing With the Stars. Sadly I think he is more famous for winning Dancing with the Stars. Anyways, Maribelle claimed she saw him reading the paper while we were running. On our next lap she was going to prove it to us. Well, on our next lap there was no such person reading the paper. We laughed and told her she was seeing things.

As we were leaving we saw a dark haired short little guy walking out holding the paper. Maribelle walked right up to Apolo Ohno, pointed at the group of us girls and said, "They didn't believe me when I told them you were here." The group of us girls, all happily married with children, laughed and giggled like little school girls at the sight of someone famous. Then he said, "I'm here every day." Then, I said, "See you next week." After the words spewed out of my mouth I felt like Baby in Dirty Dancing at first meeting Patrick Swazye's character says, "I carried a watermelon."

Well, last Saturday he was at the Oval again, this time he was running the track with us. I made sure to keep my mouth shut as not to embarrass myself again. I can now proudly say that,
on Saturday's, I workout with Apolo Ohno.

ooooo..sledding at the cabin

My friend Nora invited me and the kids to go sledding up at her cabin last week. Reece has been off track for 3 weeks (a perk of year round school), I knew it would be a great way to end the break. Some of my friends questioned why I needed to drive an hour to go sledding when I could take the kids .2 miles away to go sledding. There is just something about going up to the cabin in Kamas that sooths me.
My theory is that if I'm far enough away from my house I don't hear it calling me back, reminding me of how messy it is, begging me to finish painting the kitchen that I started spackling, or nagging me to caulk and paint the new baseboards we put up. I can't hear the call of my house if I'm far enough away from it, I can relax, no emails to check, no pictures to edit, no floors to vacuum, etc.

Another perk of sledding up at the cabin is that they have a great sun room that faces the sledding hill. So, I can be in the sun room sipping hot cocoa while Reece is sledding the afternoon away.

Here are a few more shots from the afternoon.

This little runt decided the 6 feet of powder was a little too intimidating and decided to stay inside.

Maya would sit on a sled as long as it wasn't on a hill.

Jada was in dog heaven, there were acres of land to run around and explore. She is checking the run to make sure the path is clear, what a great dog.

It can get pretty tiring.

Now she is playing watch dog. Good girl.

Here comes Reece.

Agh, who needs to see? Seeing is over rated.

And here is Addie Joe, when is she not cute?

And then came Nora

But wait, she has a little runt tucked in front.

Sometimes I wonder who likes sledding more, Nora or her kids? I think the answer is in her expression.

Ahhhh, the cabin.

The Roof

I called a restaurant called The Roof 2 1/2 weeks ago to make a reservation for Valentines Day, they were already totally booked. So, instead Michael and I went for my birthday. If you aren't familiar with this restaurant, it is a buffet. Now, I know what you might be thinking when you hear buffet. A buffet for Valentines Day? How un-romantic. But this ain't no Golden Coral, or Chuck-o-Rama, although I really do like Golden Coral. This is high class buffet and the desserts, oh my gosh they are to die for! It is at the top of the Joseph Smith Memorial building, and they have large windows overlooking the Salt Lake City Temple and the valley beyond that. It is so beautiful at night.

My first experience with The Roof was when Michael was in his last year of college going to school full time and working part time doing maintenance for an apartment complex, not exactly the highest paying job. I had just had Reece, so I was no longer working, and the majority of our income was coming from student loans. My friend Megan and her husband Michael invited us to go to The Roof for Valentines Day. We declined the offer because of the cost. Megan told me it would be about $15 per person, and when you are living off of student loans, that is TON of money. That one meal would be about the cost of one week worth of groceries for us at that time. Megan convinced us that we needed to do something special for Valentines Day, and that $30 really wasn't that much money. Michael and I decided we would go, but we would have to live off of Ramen Noodles for the next week.

We got to The Roof, and we were so excited to have a 'good meal'. We walk up to let them know we had arrived for our reservation, and we saw the actual price was $26 per person. I just about died, we were stuck, we had driven Megan and Michael to the restaurant so we couldn't leave and we didn't really want to miss out on a Valentines Dinner sitting in the foyer waiting for them to eat.

We sucked it up and decided to have a good time and we would make the meal worth it. We were determined to get our moneys worth. We sat down at the table, ordered our drinks, and started to get up to get our first of many plates of food. As Megan was getting up, she pushed the table down while standing up, as it rocked back, Michael's glass of water spilt right into his lap making it look like he wet his pants. Now, it might have been OK to still go and get food had we been at Chuck-O-Rama, but this is The Roof. Michael held back his anger while I went to get him plates of food. Luckily it wasn't long before his pants dried.

Megan and Michael were college students as well, and like I said before, we were going to make sure we got our moneys worth. A few hours later, seriously, I guess our waiter had decided that we had been there long enough. Oddly enough, our server stopped re-filling our drinks, mysteriously our silverware started disappearing, and our server would not take our used plates.

We walked out of there drunk off of food, sounds weird, but it is the only way we could describe our state at that point. We had eaten a weeks worth of groceries in a few hours time. We couldn't stop giggling, we couldn't walk a straight line or touch our fingers to our nose. We were literally drunk off of food.

When I called last week to make a reservation, they informed me that there was an hour and a half time limit. I had to wonder if they made that rule after that wonderful night at The Roof 7 years ago, or maybe they traced the call and knew it was us.

new haircut

As my birthday approached, I worried that I had been stuck with the same haircut for a while. I decided I would make a drastic change. The photo was taken with photobooth on my Mac, so the quality isn't the best, but it was easy.

Now, I was really excited about this haircut until I got home and realized that I have had this haircut many times in my life. Then I started to worry that it would look like I did in 3rd grade with this haircut.
At least I don't have the bangs to feather, right? Plus, my mom no longer is making me these sweet dresses.

I tried this same look again in 4th grade while sporting some turquoise colored stonewashed jeans with this great sweater:

Oh, PLEASE make this stop. I can't believe that I did this to myself. I actually looked at my picture and liked it enough to keep styling my hair this way??? Well, 5th grade takes the cake. Perm brushed out to complete the triangle head along with the feathered bangs. MOM, why didn't you stop me?!?!?!

If you like the vest I'm wearing in this picture, you should have seen the matching pants my mom made.

Halleluia! I put an end to this hairstyle in 6th grade, started growing out my hair, along with the bangs. You can still see hints of that perm from 5th grade. Thank you mom and dad for the braces I so badly needed!!! Now, the black rubber bands on the braces, that is another story. What was I thinking choosing those? I remember the orthodontist trying to talk me into orange and black alternating for Halloween. We compromised and went with just plain black.
I think this is the one time this haircut worked for me, I think I was about 3:
